Life Is A Miracle - Live It!
For most of my adult life, I have relished the outdoors. This preference was enhanced by years in the Army. In addition, my family, including three sons and a daughter, enjoyed camping, hiking, boating, fishing, bicycling and all of the rest.
That tradition is continuing today. In addition to my own on going hiking and camping activities, one of my sons, as COVID ended, took his family, including four of our grandchildren, on two multi-state RV camping trips. Combined, they went coast to coast.
Another son, during that same period, who completed a career school in the Army. And, not to be outdone, the other two have recently been tent and RV camping.
I’ve generally paid attention to diet and nutrition as a corresponding value of an active life…weighing in, having regular check ups and screens. And, although I had begun to carry more weight than I needed, I was almost smug in my belief that I was doing most things right to maintain good health. Until I experienced an almost fatal cardiac arrest suffered during the fifty mile charity bicycle ride pictured here.
Weeks later, when I was revived from the life saving coma that my phenomenal ICU medical team had induced me into, I began the journey that, with some backtracking, guides my life now. This website began as my record of the efforts my medical staff and other advisors, initially, scripted to get me headed to full recovery.
As I began to study the components of increasing one’s lifespan, I found myself agreeing with the likes of Peter Attia and David Sinclair, who are pioneers in the growing fields of Lifespan AND Healthspan. It is not enough to extend the average age from 76.4 years to 99.7 years if those extra years are consumed by spending most of that time fighting Alzheimers Dementia, the crippling that comes from advanced Type 2 Diabetes, the broken bones of slip and fall injuries from the instabilities that accompany old age and more.
Both men, along with a growing army of allies, believe that it is possible to extend our health so that we die with the ailments that accompany old age; but, not because of those ailments.
The mission of this website is to identify the things that add to or take away from the individual cognitive health and physical wellbeing of an aging person; to utilize that information to improve my own condition; and, to explain what I learn to those who choose to read this site.
